Introduction
SATELLIFE seeks to address two major problems health care workers in the developing world face:
- An acute shortage of current health information.
- Isolation of the health professionals from each other.
Libraries, hospitals, and other health care organizations in the developing world lack the
resources to subscribe to peer reviewed medical journals. Moreover, health professionals are hindered from
sharing information with each other because of the high cost of telephone calls,
fax services, and travel.
The goal of SATELLIFE's Information Services is to connect the health
practitioner with a range of high-quality information resources in a cost-effective manner
by making use of the most affordable and appropriate technology. South-South,
North-South and South-North information-sharing and distribution is
supported by SATELLIFE. SATELLIFE's services continually evolve in response to
the needs and resources of HealthNet users.
