I am working with collaborators to establish a sharps exchange program for
local injectors and indigenous healers in a developing country.
I would be interested in speaking/corresponding with anyone who has
experience developing similar programs.
Thank you,
Dorothy Fitzmaurice

Subject: RE: Safty of Injection
Sir,
Injection safety is a cause for concern among the patent medicine dealers
in
Nigeria. They operate in their chemists or on out-reach in the communities
[they are called "Sape" meaning pick all Drugs complete]. They are first
contacted for abortions and injections for treatment of minor ailments
because the grassroots people prefer injections believing it works faster.
They have been even known to set drips.
All these practices may fuel HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis A,B,C and I believe that
teaching these Health Workers will be in the interest of all. They need
recognition and training to prevent the spreading of the above mentioned
diseases in Nigeria.
Best regards,
Remi Akinmade
