E-DRUG: E-DRUG amoebic dysentry during pregnancy Response

The choice of drugs for treatment of pregnant women, especially in
the first trimester is always difficult. However, there are
instances where withholding treatment of the pregnant woman may have
more serious deleterious effects on the fetus, than those allegedly
associated with the treatment.

In cases of amoebic dysentery it is important for the wellbeing of
both the mother and the fetus to give appropriate treatment. In these
circumstances the drug of choice is metronidazole. It has been used
in pregnant women for a number of years and it has not been associated
with an increased risk of spontaneous abortions or malformations.
furthermore, there has been no significant increase in any particular
types of malformations or syndromes.
