1. "Faith and AIDS" is a special report by the Public Media Network 
and the AIDS National InterFaith Network - USA with support from the 
Ford Foundation. It addreses many communication related issues in-
cluding community based responses, inter-faith and secular responses, 
barriers to change, and lives in transformation.

2. "Vibrations" is a bi-annual publication of Sound Partners for Com-
munity Health, a programme of the Benton Foundation, funded as a na-
tional initiative of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Focus is on 
alliances between public radio broadcasters and local organisations 
that aim to inform and involve citizens in making decisions about 
health care.

3. "Spreading the Word: Practical Guidelines for Research Dissemina-
tion Strategies" by Darren Saywell & Andrew Cotton reviews the in-
terim findings from the 1st phase of a DFID funded project concerning 
the development of practical guidelines for research dissemination 
strategies. Results from a review of literature, case study analysis 
and interviews with key informants are discussed.

4. Family Health International (FHI) has prepared 3 checklists for 
health workers: 
a) To rule out pregnancy. Designed to help clinic-based health work-
ers determine whether non-menstruating women can safely use oral con-
traceptives or intrauterine devices.

5. 3 ITrain Internet training modules for instructors and students

6. Hopkins Report: Violence Against Women Widespread - based on a 
comprehensive overview, the report calls on the world's health care 
community to respond to physical and sexual abuse as a major public 
health concern and a violation of human rights. "Although health 
workers should be part of the solution, at this point they are often 
part of the problem," notes co-author Ellsberg. "They often violate 
confidentiality, trivialize the abuse, or blame the victim." Bureau-
cratic delays and indifference add to the problem. "Frequently, women 
feel re-victimized by the very system that is supposed to help them."

8. Men and Reproductive Health - Johns Hopkins Center for Communica-
tion Programs has released the "HIM" (Helping Involve Men) CD-ROM 
which provides 497 documents totaling over 11,000 pages of health 
statistics, reports on activities of NGOs and development agencies 
active in health, breaking news on epidemics, disasters and emergen-
cies with health implications in Nigeria. Interested readers and sub-
scribers are invited to check past, present and future postings of 
the bulletin on the AFRO-NETS Listserve site.

9. "Meeting the Cairo Challenge: Progress in Sexual and Reproductive 
Health" - this document for decision-makers and program planners de-
scribes national programs and model projects related to implementa-
tion of the 1994 ICPD Programme of Action. It highlights successful 
strategies, emerging opportunities, lessons learned, and obstacles to 
taking a comprehensive approach to provide sexual and reproductive

10. The 1999 South African Health Review provides a comprehensive and 
in-depth analysis of developments in the health sector throughout 
1999. Subjects covered include health legislation, health sector fi-

13. Environmental-journalists e-group, administered by Asia Pacific 
Forum of Environmental Journalists (APFEJ) based in Sri Lanka, pro-
motes education, understanding and awareness of the environment 
through the reporting of local, regional and international environ-

tributed to over 5000 print & electronic media officers/journalists

  14. "Adolescents and Sexual Health" is a selection of reviews of 
videos intended for sexual and reproductive health education in Afri-
can countries. This videography aims to assist people working with 
adolescents in choosing and using film material for youth groups by 
providing summaries and comments on suitable audiences, viewing con-
texts and the message and quality of films. Films reviewed are avail-
able in African languages, English and French; reviews are either in 
English or French as appropriate. The videography is modelled on a 
bibliography of information and training materials on adolescents' 
sexual health with the same title, and will be updated regularly.
