E-drug: Samples of counterfeit drugs (cont)
---------------------------------------------

This is a very useful initiative but it is important that the details of
where the drugs were obtained is collected and reported. Also for the
analysis of the drugs I think it is most important that the results be
reported as Fake (no active ingredient) understandard and overstandard. Also
based on data presented this week in Geneva for antimalarial drugs the major
problem seems to be in dissolution not whether the active ingredient is
present or not. So that should also be reported.

Finally I think it is important to remember that quality drugs are obtained
through good procurement practices and that testing should be a check and
not the basis of obtaining quality drugs.

I hope that the results of this survey will be posted on the web as they
occur and that the positive (good quality) results will also be published.
Not only do procurement agents need to know the bad producers but also the
good producers.
