THE LETTER FROM INDIA IS VERY ENCOURAGING. THERE WAS A SIMILAR CASE
IN SOUTH AFRICA WHERE AN APPLICANT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL
SERVICES HAD BEEN OFFERED A JOB AND AS PART OF THE PRE EMPLOYMENT
MEDICAL, AN HIV TEST WAS DONE. THE TEST CAME BACK POSITIVE AND THE
DEPARTMENT WITHDREW ITS OFFER OF A JOB. THE APPLICANT WENT TO COURT,
BUT BEFORE THE MATTER COULD BE HEARD BY THE COURT, CABINET GAVE A
RULING THAT PRE EMPLOYMENT HIV SCREENING WAS TO BE STOPPED IN THAT
DEPARTMENT.
CAN SOMEONE EDUCATE ME AS TO WHY A VDRL TEST IS STILL REQUIRED FOR
EMPLOYMENT PURPOSES, AS I CANNOT SEE HOW MY VDRL STATUS CAN EVER
AFFECT ANYONE BESIDES MY SEXUAL PARTNERS, AND EVEN DEMENTIA FROM
SYPHILIS CAN BE HANDLED BY MY EMPLOYER AS DEMENTIA FROM ANY OTHER
CAUSE.
