New drug application submitted to FDA for ceftobiprole for complicated skin and skin structure infections

      Abstract According to PharmaLive, a New Drug Application (NDA) has been submitted to the FDA for ceftobiprole, an investigational cephalosporin antibiotic, for the treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI) in adults. 

      The application is based on Phase III trial data, in which ceftobiprole demonstrated broad-spectrum coverage in various cSSSIs, including diabetic foot infections. Unlike currently available cephalosporins, ceftobiprole has also demonstrated activity against MRSA.
