SJAPPE.CYT ? a file naming system for cytotoxic production.  

Software for pharmaceutical preparation of cytotoxics is often expensive, but in many cases the problem is that it is not compatible or not available at all. Very many (most?) production sites still have only one common master productiondocument for each substance. This makes it necessary to repeat all calculations every time a certain variety is produced. From a quality perspective this is certainly not up to date.  

SJAPPE.CYT is a simple and inexpensive (free) way to improve the production system for cytotoxics. SJAPPE.CYT is not software, but a system for filenames which describe the important elements of cytotoxic preparations. The file names are so descriptive that consulting the code key is seldom needed.   

With SJAPPE.CYT it is possible and easy to produce and organise a vast number of master production documents (in principle for every single milligram of each substance). For practical reasons we are rounding off the doses. 2% rounding off as a rule - and more in some cases. The production documents describe the components, the equipment, the production procedure, and the label. Sincecalculation are done and checked when making the master production document,they need not be repeated every time the product is made. The production documents and labels are produced in Microsoft Word, but in principle even hand written master production documents can be used if you have a copying machine.  

SJAPPE.CYT was developed by me and Hans Storslett in 1996, and has been used at the Hospital Pharmacy of Elverum, Norway since then. SJAPPE.CYT is cost efficient at Elverum, where we have less than one thousand preparations per year.   
The gain will be higher at larger hospitals. But the largest gain is in quality.
