Community-based drug information helpline services

Eddy,
I have a suggestion to help you start the drug information programme in your community and beyond as follows:

You can send via email our DIC the queries which you receive and are not
urgent clinically. You can pull the queries received and send us on
particular day of every week, if running computer/internet everyday is a
problem. Once I receive your queries, these will be responded to
individually with proper search through our database (Drugdex, Micromedex)
and answers in word format or html can be emailed from our DIC to your
office. You can then answer the questioner either orally or in written form
based on nature of information requested. Thus, you do not have to print all responses sent by us and do not need to immediately hire a person to man the centre.

It can be easily and mutually worked out. It can then be called as subcentre of Maharashtra State Pharmacy Council's Drug Information Centre .

Regards
Dr. (Mrs.) Sampada Patvardhan (Ph.D.Tech. Pharmacology)

Note from Moderator: I think this is a very generous and practical proposal. It is a similar model to that used in haemophilia by the World Federation of Hemophilia - they have a twinning programme where a haemophilia treatment centre in a more developed country e.g. UK is twinned with one in the developing world to offer expertise and assistance in the management of haemophilia which greatly benefits the patients (Carolyn Rochat)
