Indices: Trainings - ADR's

Dear Colleagues,

The Nucleo de Farmacovigilancia do Centro (NFC) (Regional Unit of the
Portuguese National Pharmacovigilance System) is currently undertaking a
short-term study on training and promotion of Health Professionals on
spontaneous reporting of suspected adverse drug reactions (ADR) in order to
make recommendations on the best practice in educating and informing Health
Professionals in Portugal on the subject.

Part of the study includes a review of the literature available on the use
of different methodologies to increase the number and the quality of reports
of suspected adverse drug reactions (ADR) by Health Professionals.

In order to make this study as comprehensive as possible the NFC would like
to include updated information from those involved in pharmacovigilance and
drug information and would appreciate it if those involved could respond the
following questions:

1. Is your organisation responsible for promoting and training Health
Professionals on spontaneaus adverse drug reactions reporting?

2. What training and promotional methods does your organisation use to
increase the number and quality of ADR reports received from Health
Professionals?

3. Which methods have been most successful in achieving the above aims and
how often are they organised?

4. If education sessions are used:
a. Which Health Professionals have been the main targets?
b. At what stage in their careers (ie. pre- or post-graduate)?
c. What specific content is included in these sessions?
(If a copy of the full presentations or the outline of the sessions
can be attached it would be very appreciated)

5. How has the success/failure of these training and promotional methods
been evaluated in the past?

6. For what other reasons is training and promotion provided by your
organisation to Health Professionals?

Please send responses by email to farmacovigilancia@nfc.pt or by fax to +351
239 851 839. Responses in english, french, spanish or portuguese are
welcomed.

Thank you very much, in advance, for your prompt reply and for your interest
in and support of this investigation.

Should you be interested in receiving the final report of this study, the
NFC would be glad to send you a copy once it has been completed.

Sincerely,
Germano Ferreira
