INDICES> new Ghanaian Drug Info Centre
-------------------------------------------------
[Congrats to Philip with the opening of the new Ghana Drug Information
Centre. Also thanks to the people who made this possible: the Netherlands
embassy, Dr Maponga of Zimbabwe, and the South African Medicines
Information Centre in Capetown.
Ghana DIC is most welcome to INDICES! WB]

Dear INDICES readers,

I would like to inform you that our Drug Information
services and the National Drug Information Centre have
been launched on the 25th of September.

The main objective of the National Drug Information
Resource Centre is to provide the needed and objective
information to the presciber, dispenser and the
consumer. It is also to serve as a spring-board to the
creation of a National Drug Information System to
provide Drug Information Services nationwide. Our's is
not intended to be one in a country, but rather to
have a collaborative system with periphery where there
may local Drug Information needs.

The system will work in close collaboration with both
clinical and non-clinical consultants and specialists
in various fields of practice.

The Drug Information Service aspect of the system will
ensure Patient Counseling, Clinical Monitoring of Drug
Use, Active Drug Information Provision, Drug and
Therapeutic Committee activities.

The History to the setup is linked to the Royal
Netherlands Government's support to improve the
Pharmaceutical Sub-sector of our Ministry of Health. I
wish to acknowledge their support here. The history
also has something to do with Dr. Maponga from
Zimbabwe who served as a Consultant for the GNDP to do
a rapid survey on Drug Information Needs for Ghana.

The history is also linked to the Medicines
Information Centre in South Africa where we did an
attachment to under-study Drug Information Management.

I really wish to acknowledge each and everyone for
their individual and collective support.

My believe and hope is that with the little support
and effort we can change our destiny. We look forward
to those ahead of us in this business to foster links
with us and support and collaborate with us. We are
also encouraging other to take this business up
seriously to ensure global rational use of drugs

Kind Regards

Philip Anum
