Dear friends,

In this age of evidence-based medicine this story sounds incredible.

The ORIGINAL manufacturer has "voluntarily" withdrawn the drug from the
market because of its side
effects and unproven efficacy. The argument that it is still marketed in a
number of
countries with underdeveloped registration systems is totally invalid - In
these regions
there is NO adequate reporting system of adverse reactions, and, even if
there was
one, the original motive to stop production - i.e. lack of effect and
PROVEN dangerous
side effects - would remain the same.

In France the marketing of Spasmopriv has been
continued, but it is no longer fenoverine, but mebeverine, an old drug with
again no
proven efficacy - the "trials" are not worth their salt - but no side
effects to speak of, i.e.
in innocuous placebo. Mundus vult decipi - The world wants to be
betrayed.....

Such manufacturers are harming the reputation of the good ones!
