INDICES> Metamizole in your country? (11)
-----------------------------------------------

Dear colleagues, Dr. Offerhaus, Dr. de Joncheere

Your suggestions sounds very interesting from many points of view.
This long
discussion we've started with a problems of metamizole in Russia (NIS)
insensibly moved to commune problems of pain and analgesics medicines
use in
Eastern and Central Europe. It is only accentuate an importance of OTC
and
prescription anesthesia theme not only for NIS but for all European
countries.
Irrationality of analgesic utilization in Russia (as in other
countries, for
instance - NIS) is sustained particularly by the weakness of a
pharmacovigilance system and irrational and imperfective OTC and
prescription-only-medicine policy. When we startes from this point we
are
automatically moving to global problems.
During last two or three years we've made a serious attempts to change
something (at least, to draw public and professional attention to this
point) - have published several articles in main popular and
professional
journals, carried out a presentation on the 9th World Congress on
Pain,
included this themes into our training sessions, etc. Only a few weeks
ago
I've finished a kind of a guideline (based on international evidence)
on
pain syndromes treatment in primary health care.
But to prove something we need more than to prepare publications -
probably
to think over a joint long term strategy.
That is why I think your suggestions are very welcome.

Faithfully yours,
Prof. Vladimir S. Shoukhov, M.D., D.Sci (Med)
