INDICES> Plasma Expanders in Shock?
----------------------------------------------------
Dear All,
I came across a phrase that: "At least four independent clinical trials
have shown that plasma expanders increase mortality in intensive care."
Indeed, plasma expanders are no longer procured by our sister organisation
in Kenya, E.Africa.
Plasma expanders (commonly polygeline 3.5% for our country) are twelve
times more expensive than Normal Saline or Ringer's Lactate. And our
hospitals here get a number of patients in shock.
We would like to make recommendations to prescribers and pharmaceutical
distributors here.
But before that, does anybody have anymore experience with plasma expanders?
Is anyone aware of the way fluids were administered in those studies?
I will be grateful for that help.
Sincerely,
George Kibumba, MPS
