INDICES> Chloroquine induced itch
-----------------------------------------------
Dear Sir / Madam,
Background
Chloroquine is the cheapest anti-malarial on the Ugandan market. In our
private sector, where almost 83% of the population seek treatment for
uncomplicated malaria, chloroquine is often not the firstline drug. Even
in areas where it is effective. Itching is among the reasons advanced,
for refusing to take chloroquine.
Assist me with answers to the following questions
1. Is a previous chloroquine-induced itch a contraindication to chloroquine
use?
2. Have you registered any major health problems with continued chloroquine
use, even when it itches?
Sincerely,
George Kibumba, MPS(Uganda).

[Can I add a 3rd question: what treatment to give for the itch if you decide
not to stop the chloroquine?
WB]
