INDICES: RFI: Povidone Iodine Pessaries for pre-delivery vaginal cleansing

Hi all

I am looking for information on the possibility of using povidone iodine for
pre-delivery vaginal canal cleansing in HIV+ pregnant women.

Specifically, I would like to know if there is any documented literature
supporting:

(1)  Efficacy of the procedure (with any agent) in preventing / reducing
chances of mother to child transmission of HIV
(2) If (1) is correct, does that literature support the use of povidone
iodine for that purpose

I am aware of a study that was conducted in Malawi but I do not have further
information on similar studies and the scientific conclusion on the
procedure.
