-------------------------------------------------------

Kirsten's answer is to the point - I would like to add to my first brief
negative reaction that any sedative, including neuroleptics, tend to
aggravate the symptoms of ADHD, and that piracetam is a drug with
possible weak anti-epileptic properties but nothing else. It used to be
marketed as a "nootropic" - a neologism, according to a well-known
German physician - "invented by medical representatives with a
classical education". There is no proof that it works in any known
medical condition including neonatal asphyxia (for which sham
indication it was used widely in Eastern Europe).

ADHD is much overdiagnosed, particularly by parents with difficult
children; it is always easier to blame a medical condition in stead of
your own failure as a parent. There are some recent indications that
for ADHD proper the old term "minimal brain damage" might be
correct, but the condition is difficult to diagnose and much rarer
than most people think.

Good luck and best regards, Leo Offerhaus
