INDICES> GENERIC PRESCRIPTION & RATIONAL USE OF DRUGS (2)
---------------------------------------------------------

Hi Ruwan,

In Australia we allow generic substitution by pharmacies but our government
cannot quite come at advocating generic prescribing! Why not? Because of
pressure from multi-national pharmaceutical companies! Also, regrettably,
many doctors enjoy the perks provided by multi-national drug companies!

For more general information on Australian drug policy and quality use of
medicines policy you might like to look at:

http://www.health.gov.au/haf/docs/nmp2000.htm and

http://www.qum.health.gov.au/

You might also encourage your colleagues to, "Take the Pledge" and say "NO"
to drug company influence. See http://www.nofreelunch.org/pledge.html

Cheers
Ken
