INDICES> Gerovidol? (2)
-----------------------

Dear Randy Trinkle,

We searched our database here and found no drug with the generic or
tradename "gerovidol". I can only speculate that the drug your patient is
referring to is "gerovital" or "Gerovital H3". This is an injectable
preparation containing 2% procaine hydrochloride solution with small amounts
of benzoic acid, potassium metabisulfite and disodium phosphate. The drug
is administered as a 100 or 200 mg intramuscular injection twice weekly and
is claimed to retard aging and treat other various chronic illnesses. These
claims remain unproven in controlled clinical trials, though.

[moderator comment: an Internet search using www.google.com did not get one hit for
gerovidol. So it is unlikely that the brandname is correct. WB]
