[moderator's comment:

1. analgin = dipyrone or metamizol or many other names! The drug seems to hide behind
many names...

2. All combinations of metamizol and spasmolytics were banned in Germany more than 10 years
ago, as there was no evidence that the combination was working better than the single
ingredient, but there was evidence that the metamizol in the combination had serious
side-effects (agranulocytosis, shock)and most patients or doctors were unaware that
metamizol was one of its ingredients.
Baralgin and Buscopan compositum were the most well known brandnames.

3. The fact that a drug or combination is listed in a Pharmacopeia is NOT an indication
of its efficacy or safety! Pharmacopeias are meant to describe quality control procedures.
Instead of a Pharmacopeia, you should ask whether the drug has been allowed for marketing
in a country by the Drug Regulatory Authority, or whether it has been banned.
WHO is maintaining a UN list of banned, withdrawn, restricted drugs, and the listing for
metamizol is very long!

4. My advice: get the combinations banned in India like in Germany (country of origin!)
as it only increases risk and does not add any efficacy.
