Dear Dimitiris,

If you give drugs intrathecally or by epidural injecion, it is important
that they do not contain preservatives and that the solution is
physiologically 'neutral', i.e using sodium chloride or lactated Ringer for
any reconstitution. In newborns it is warned against using benzyl alcohol
even for iv injections because of CNS toxicity.

I could probably dig up references if you need them.
