INDICES> Establishment of ADR Center in Islamabad, Pakistan
-----------------------------------------------------------

Sir/Madam,

The Network for Consumer Protection in Pakistan is a not for profit
civil society organisation registered in Pakistan working to protect the
rights of poor consumers in health sector.

Our mission in medicines work is to promote the rational use of
medication and essential drugs concept in Pakistan in order to optimize
the usefulness of drugs and help bring equity in their access.

The Network has about 20,000 supporters all over the country as
subscribers to our two bi-monthly publications, one of which is the only
independent Drug Bulletin in the country.

As an NGO, The Network desires to establish an Adverse Drug Reaction
(ADR) program for consumers as well as for health care professionals,
because at present no efficient ADR system is working in Pakistan at any
level. Through the ADR program, The Network's aspiration is to develop a
drug monitoring system, identify drug injury cases and to initiate an
early warning and drug alert system. We are very interested in
initiating this process but we have no experience in this area. In this
direction what do you suggest for us to begin with.

Your valuable comments are required in the following area:

1. Resources required (Human , Financial, etc.)
2. Infrastructure required
3. Potential information sources (Reporters of ADRs)
4. Analysis of information
5. Software and support material required
6. What other ADR Centers are currently working in NGO setting in other
parts of the world
7. Supply of specimen material and formats used in ADRs would be
appreciated

Looking forward to hearing from you.
