Dear MR. J.Kamdem
Your country needs an active, and incorruptible Drug Regulatory Authority to
check on the quality of generics, on your medicine market. The agency can
also regulate the number of generics for a particular condition. If you do
not have such an authority, you could think of a project to have one. In
the project, you should not forget the requirement of a fully equiped
laboratory.
On public drug use, people must be educated about drugs. Otherwise they
will continue to use medicines wrongly. Some will not even bother going to
health units for proper diagnosis, even when they have the money.
People will also continue to misuse and over use vital antimicrobials.
Some people have developed fatal complications of otherwise treatable
diseases. Others have developed drug related complications, secondary to
getting all categories of drugs at ease, whenever they think such medicines
are needed.
WHO medicines department developed a course on public drug use education.
Am certain you may need it. To plan your work more effeciently and
effectively, for a change in practice. I gained alot of insight into public
drug use education from the modules of that course. You may contact one of
the following for advice, and more current information, about the course.
Ms. Daphne Fresle(whose address is given below) can, in addition, give you
more information about setting up a drug regulatory agency, and an
essential drug policy.
