INDICES> query on rationality of combining ambroxol and terbutaline (cont)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Lakshmi,
>Is their any rationality in combining products of
>"Ambroxol and terbutaline".
Ambroxol is a mucokinetic, it makes mucus flow upwards out of the lungs, or
respiratory tract. Terbutaline is a selective beta 2-adrenoceptor agonist.
It makes the bronchioles, in the respiratory tract to widen. To me giving
ambroxol and terbutaline at the same time is rational. Or, if there is a
product containing both ambroxol and terbutaline is rational. In an attack
of asthma, for example, there is alot of mucus. Mucus blocks air flow.
Facilitating removal of mucus from the respiratory tract, by ambroxol
should be acceptable. In acute attacks of asthma again as an example,
there is bronchoconstriction, widening bronchioles with terbutaline should
be alright. Combining a bronchodilator(terbutaline), with a mucus removal
aid(ambroxol)in the same formulation, or product, or use together should be
acceptable.
For sure, treating with ambroxol and terbutaline is more expensive than
treating with terbutaline alone.
My concern: Is there faster and statistically significant clinical relief,
from mucus congestion associated with bronchoconstriction, with terbutaline
plus ambroxol than with terbutaline alone?
