INDICES> Drug ID from Cuba
--------------------------

dear INDICESers,

I am looking for info on a medicine from Cuba. The spelling may be abafortan or
abaforjan (or something similar) It was for GI spasms. May also be known
as spasmazort

[moderator's comment: sounds like avafortan, which contains dipyrone (=metamizol or
novaminsulfon) and an antispasmodic.
Those combinations were banned/withdrawn in Germany in late 1980's due to the risk of
agranulocytosis, shock and the lack of more efficacy compared with single dipyrone.
It is known that they were very popular in Eastern Europe, so that could be the reason
they are also used in Cuba.
I would go for a safer drug!
