INDICES> Indian contraceptive pill "Saheli"
-------------------------------------------

Please can anyone provide info about an Indian oral contraceptive
pill called 'Saheli' made by Hindustan Latex Ltd?
The generic name appears to be centchroman and the CPI describes it
as a non-steroidal contraceptive tablet - no strength.

Instructions: Take the first pill on the first day of bleeding and
for the first 3 months take one tablet twice a week. From the 4th
month onwards take one table once a week.

There are precautions and instructions about what to do if a tablet is missed.

Listed absolute contraindications are: recent or past history of
jaundice or liver disease, polycystic ovarian disease, chronic
cervicitis or cervical hyperplasia.
Other CIs are severe allergic conditions, chronic illness like TB or
renal disease, nursing mothers in the first 6 months.

What is it? Does it work? Is it safe?

Thank you very much
