INDICES> Isoniazid Suspension (cont)
------------------------------------
The following formula has been published in the BPC (1973) and the 29 th
edition of Martindale. As far as I know no formal stability studies have
been carried out.
50 mg per 5 mL
Isoniazid powder BP 50 mg
Citric acid monohydrate 12.5 mg
Sodium citrate 60 mg
Concentrated anise water 0.05 mL (optional)
Glycerol 1 mL
Parabens 0.1 % (ie 0.1% total parahydroxybenzoates)
Water to 5 mL
The original formaula contained chloroform water as a preservative. I have
suggested parabens instead.
Suggested expiry date 30 days.
Storage
Less than 25 C but refrigeartoion may cause crystallisation of isoniazid
from solution. Protect from light.
NB
Do not use syrups (glucose, sucrose etc)in the formaulation due to
incompatibility with isoniazid.
