INDICES> Trifluoracetamide
--------------------------
Dear Indices colleagues,
Here comes a small challenge again from Vietnam.
We are currently organizing a (National) Poison information centre (PIC)
integrated with an intensive care unit for treating poisoned patients.
This PIC and ICU are located at our main university hospital in Hanoi,
Bac Mai hospital. One of our current problem is the occurrence of
poisoning due to Trifluoroacetamide (TFAA) exposure. This TFAA is
currently used as rodenticide, highly volatile and highly toxic.
TFAA apparently interfers with the citric acid cycle / mitochondrial
metabolism, causing very severe poisoning and fatalities. It is
difficult to select an efficient and proper antidotal or other form of
efficient treatment regime. At present, information about international
experience in treating this type of poisoning is somewhat difficult to
access.
I would therefore really appreciate if our colleagues and
friends around the Globe would share practical experience and advice
about best possible treatment of these patients.
With warm regards and greetings from Hanoi
