INDICES> Bacterial Endocarditits Prophylactic Regimens
------------------------------------------------------

We are currently updating our Prophylactic Regimens for Dental
procedures for patients who need protection from Bacterial Endocarditis.

We are using the latest recommendations of the American Dental and
Heart Associations (1997). The current standard general prophylaxis for
patients at "risk" is:

Amoxicillin 2.0g for an adult given one hour before a procedure.

I would like to confirm that this recommmendation applies to all
patients, including those at highest risk of complications such as those
with a prosethic heart valve.

With thanks
