Vitamin prescriptions in the public sector (5)
_________________________________
The situation in the UK is that doctors can prescribe vitamins to the public
under the National Health Service if it is thought that they are necessary,
for example B12 in cases of pernicious anaemia. However, in general, this is
not common since vitamin deficiency is rare.
The public can buy vitamins over the counter and this is common. There are
many multivitamin/mineral preparations available although it is doubtful
whether any of them are of much value.
