INDICES: Resomal, special electrolyte - mineral solution
--------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friends,

Is this the right formulation of a special mineral solution called
resomal (trade name)?

Potassium chloride 224g
Tripotassium citrate 81g
Magnesium Chloride 76g
Zinc acetate 8.2g
Copper sulphate 1.4g
Water to make 2500ml.

This formulation may be okay for malnourished children and chronic diarrhea
in AIDS patients. If truely so, is not the absence of Glucose a big deal?
Is it alright not to have sodium in this regimen of "ORS"? Will not the
seemingly high potassium content cause hyperkalaemia, with associated heart
dysfunction especially in hypovolaemia?

Thank you all, in advance.

[George, maybe worthwhile to explain the background of this, as I am not sure what
you are asking. Before anyone can answer whether a drug is safe, one needs to know
the indication and dose. This combination looks lethal to me if injected...
It also looks hyperosmotic - I would not give this to my daughter, even if she had
AIDS diarrhoea! WB]
