INDICES> topical DMSO solution stability
----------------------------------------
[re-routed from E-drug to INDICES due to its technical content; WB]
Dear E-druggers, INDICESsers,
A question from my oncology pharmacist about the stability of 50% DMSO
solution follows .... anyone have any solid info about this?
"I would like to start recommending the use of topical DMSO (dimethyl
sulfoxide) 50% (v/v) for the treatment of anthracycline extravasation.
The shelf life of undiluted DMSO is 2 years. How do other centres handle
this?
I was thinking of pouring 50ml of undiluted DMSO into 100ml amber bottle
... as and when needed, the nurses will be
instructed to add 50ml sterile water for injection before topical
application. What shelf-life can be assigned to the diluted solution? Is
2 weeks OK? Is there any concern about hydrolysis?"
Thank you and have a nice day !
