INDICES: Long acting oily chloramphenicol inj.
----------------------------------------------

Thank you for your responses,

This product (chloramphenicol oily) was formulated sometime ago, in the
70s.

A single injection was sufficient to treat meningococcal meningitis.
Chloramphenicol injections are widely used here for empirical management of
meningitis. As you know, on a 6hrly basis.

Why is it that the oily form has not picked up in countries where
chloramphenicol is still an affordable alternative? Is it hard to
administer through ordinary needles , causes abscesses or very painful
compared to the 6hrly injections? Does it still work?

We are considering to recommend it to our prescribers as a more nursing
friendly product compared to ordinary chloramphenicol.

With kind regards,
