A new drug information centre has opened in South Africa, with the 
support of a private clinic.  Welcome to INDICES !  If any

Herewith the details on SouthCape MedsInfo

South Cape MedsInfo is a clinical pharmacology / toxicology 
consultation service for health professionals in the South Cape 
region. The service is administered from the pharmacy of the 
Geneva Clinic in George, in collaboration with South Africa Clinical 
Trials (SACT).  There are four other centres in South Africa  that 
provide a similar service, linked to faculties of medical science at 
tertiary education institutions.  South Cape MedsInfo interacts with 
these centres, thus contributing to an efficient drug information 
network.

South Cape MedsInfo?s objective is to ease the task of healthcare 
professionals by the collection, evaluation and communication of 
the overwhelming volume of available drug information. Healthcare 
professionals can obtain individual responses to questions 
concerning drug related topics through our 24 hour per day, 7 days 
per week telephonic service. Telephonic responses are confirmed 
in writing. This assistance is  a free service to healthcare 
professionals in the private and public sector.  

The centre is operated by pharmacists with experience in drug 
information:- Riana Smook, Marianne Coetzee and Margaret Swart. 
Professor F.O. Müller of SACT provides a consultative support 
service and is responsible for ongoing training of the MedsInfo 
team. 

MedsInfo utilises textbooks, journals, the Internet and international 
medical databases and publications on CD-Rom in its quest to 
offer comprehensive information.  We strive to provide quick access 
to accurate, unbiased, well referenced and up to date information. 
By doing this, we hope to promote rational, safe and effective drug 
therapy and ultimately improve patient care in the South Cape 
region.  We aim to contribute to continued medical education 
through lectures, seminars and information sessions.

South Cape MedsInfo represents a considerable contribution by the 
Geneva Clinic and South Africa Clinical Trials to healthcare in the 
private as well as public sector in the South Cape.
