I am working as an Assistant Project Director of Drug Information
Centre in India. I had received a query regarding "Methods of
analysis of chewing gum". As far as Bureau of Indian Standard is concerned,
we do have books published by them for the analysis. Then the query
was extended to International methods because in tropical countries
,tests for reducing sugar and moisture content are not being carried
out. While browsing I came across an article, which is:
Federal Register: July 7, 1997 (Volume 62, Number 129)

AGENCY: Food and Drug Administration, HHS.
ACTION: Advance notice of proposed rulemaking.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Codex is an international food standard-setting organization composed of =
national Governments that establishes ``standards''comparable in scope
and intent to certain standards established by FDA. Codex currently
has 8 general subject and 15 commodity committees. The general subject
committees and their host countries are: (1) Food
Labelling (Canada), (2) Food Additives and Contaminants (The
Netherlands), (3) Food Hygiene (The United States), (4) Pesticide
Residues (The Netherlands), (5) Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods
(The United States), (6) Methods of Analysis and Sampling (Hungary),
(7) Food Import and Export Inspection and Certification Systems
(Australia), and (8) General Principles (France). The General
Principles Committee oversees, maintains, and manages the Codex
procedural rules

Could anybody please inform me regarding the same. Is there a
discrepancy in the methods of analysis between the international and
tropical countries. In case we need these methods who is to be
contacted?

Thanks in advance
