EXPANDING INDICES OUTREACH
==========================

While accepting Leesette's points concerning access to the technology being
a barrier, I think there is much more we could do to publicise the
existence and purposes of INDICES. Here are some ideas:

We could ask medical journals, such as 'Africa Health', to do a short
article about both INDICES AND E-DRUG.
(Incidentally, people may be interested to know that all drug advertising
which is accepted by 'Africa Health' is first screened by MaLAM.)

The BMJ has several national editions - in India and Nigeria for example:
these journals would also have the potential to carry messages to the
people we need to inform.

What about the Commonwealth Pharmaceutical Association; its newsletter goes
to all pharmacists who are members of the CPA. Phil Green and Elaine
Harden are the editors.

Gill and I write an occasional e-mail newsletter for INGOs and students of
public health at the Liverpool and London Schools of Hygiene and Tropical
Medicine. These students often return to responsible jobs in the health
and pharmaceutical services of their countries. We will send out a
reminder about INDICES now that the new year has begun. We could also
contact Paul Chinnock, editor of 'Africa Health', and the CPA newsletter team.

I'm sure other INDICES subscribers must be in touch with schools of public
health, schools of pharmacy, and also with networks which produce
newsletters. (Boston, Amsterdam, HAI, MaLAM, Pakistan Network Newsletter,
Calcutta (BODHI), World Council of Churches/CISS 'Contact' etc. etc...)

Establishing INDICES has been a great achievement. Despite its present
relatively small membership, it has the potential to be an important global
resource. Hopefully everyone concerned with it will be willing to spend a
little time promoting it to increase the subscriber base.

all good wishes,
Philippa Saunders.

I, and I am sure the INDICES core group, would be most grateful for
any assistance with spreading the word. Thank you very much for the
suggestions Philippa. I am happy to co-ordinate communication where
necessary.

HAI did circulate our original ideas and information. However, a new
drive with the new year is a good suggestion.

We gratefully accept your offer to contact those mentioned above. Any
further addresses from INDICES members in this regard will be most
welcome. Foppe would you be able to do something with FIP ?

We can assist with relevant text where necessary too.

Any more ideas and suggestions ??

Thanks and regards
Leesette
