Are emergency contraceptive pills a necessary evil? (2)
************************
Dear All,
With changing times, availability of these pills is considered as the need of the day. However, introduction of these pills without consumer education /counselling , has carried the wrong message. Its easy access may further add to the problem. Consumers needs to be educated that it is not a multivitamin which can be taken by anyone any number of times. Additionally, it is also considered as substitute to monthly combined OC pills. The failure rate of emergency pills is 2% as compare to 0.1% of combined pills. This may even decrease the use of condoms and increase STDs rates. Whether it is an evil or boon, time will tell. But currently we need to educate our consumers with focus on its sales figure and STD rates!!
