Indian patent bill stirs debate among scientists (1)
****************************************************
I think this is a much-delayed move. As member of the ICMR Committee on this subject we had recommended this eight years ago but although approved it was never implemented. As a member of the committee set up by the minister of health Ramadoss we had recommended long before the knowledge commission that this should be done and that 25 percent of the salary could be obtained from the grants a person gets towards his personal income. I have consistently worked towards this at the PGI chandigarh and at NIPER chandigarh at the governing body meetings. Our doctors can change the face of India now that we are having economic successes if they are given opportunities and get appropriate benefits and can function independently without unnecessary bureaucratic control just give a chance to these splendid people who were responsible for the success of U.K.S much acclaimed NHS at that time and who are making an impact today in USA
Our committee recommended much more for them. This is I hope just the beginning of a new era for our doctors.
