Sensitizing doctors working in the hospitals/dispensaries of
Government of NCT of Delhi on Rational Use of Medicines

In association with the Directorate of Health Services, Government of NCT of Delhi, the Delhi Society for Promotion of Rational Use of Drugs (DSPRUD) organized four workshops for sensitizing doctors on rational use of medicines in the G.B. Pant Hospital.  For each workshop a theme-based topic was chosen.  These were  (i) Impact of irrational prescribing on treatment outcomes and economic outcomes; (ii) Building up of resistance in patients consequent on irrational use of antimicrobials; (iii) Rational as well as irrational drug combinations and fixed dose combinations with special reference to anti-tuberculosis drugs (DOTS Programme) and drug use in GIT ailments; and (iv) current concept of treatment of hypertension.
   
  In all, about 350 doctors drawn from government hospitals and dispensaries participated.  The workshops were enlivened by active participation of some of the senior doctors.  The participants had an opportunity to be addressed by eminent professionals which included Professor Ranjit Roy Chaudhury, Dr. A.K. Agarwal ? Dean, Maulana Azad Medical College and other faculty drawn from government and private hospitals, as also the office bearers of DSPRUD.  
   
  The participants welcomed this initiative to sensitize them on rational use of medicines and making them aware of consequences of irrational use of medicines.  
   
  It is proposed to have similar workshops to sensitize all the remaining doctors in the Public Health Department of Government of NCT of Delhi.
