Classification of Bulk Drugs and Formulations (1)
*************************************************

Hello,

I am Reji Joseph, a faculty at Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi. I am doing a study on the export and import of bulk drugs and formulations in India. I am using the data from DGCIS. While using the data, I face some conceptual problems. I will be very grateful, if you can help me out.

Chapter 30 of Indian Trade Classification deals with pharmaceuticals.
Chapter *3003 is* *medicament mixtures, not in dosage or packaged for retail * and chapter *3004 is medicament mixtures, put in dosage or packaged for retail*. Chapter 3004 is definitely formulations. But where will chapter 3003 fit in. When I spoke to IDMA people, I was told that chapter 3003 is formulations. But, *is it possible to consider medicament mixtures which is not put in dosage forms as formulations*. Formulations mean medicaments ready for use. I think, unless medicament mixtures are put in dosage forms, they will not fall under the definition of medicines/rugs.

Thank you
