Pharm.D.starting in India soon (1)

Pharm D. is 12+6 years (5 years study including 2 months hospital internship) and last 6th year exclusive internship in hospital having 300+ beds. Intake capacity will be 30 per college.
Pharm D. Post Baccalaureate is B.Pharm+3 years (2 years study) and last year exclusive internship in hospital having 300+ beds. Intake capacity will be 10 per college.
College has to fulfill criteria for Lab., teaching/non teaching staff and main thing is the attachment with hospital having 300+ beds in which 1000 sq. ft. premise should be allotted by hospital to college to start pharmacy practice department for interns.
1st year:
Pharmacotherapeutics-I & II
Clinical Pharmacy
Biostatistics & Research Methodology
Hospital & Community Pharmacy
Clinical Toxicology
2nd year:
Pharmacotherapeutics-III
Clinical Research
Pharmacoepidimeology & Pharmacoeconomics
Clinical Pharmacokinetics & Therapeutic Drug Monitoring
Clerkship (ATTENDING WARD ROUND ON DAILY BASIS)
Project Work (6 months)
3rd year:
Residency Training in Hospital
Hospital & Community Pharmacy
Clinical Toxicology
Other criteria for admission into it etc. will be same as of B.Pharm, finalized by examining authority. Pharm D. syllabus is finalized on last 28th October 2007 in PCI central council meeting and most probably it will be starting from next academic year, i.e. from July 2008.
Some institute which may start Pharm D.:
Bombay College of Pharmacy, Mumbai
Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune
JSS College, Ooti or Mysore
Al-Ameen College, Bangalore
BHU, Varanasi
Manipal
Many of other institutes who are running their own Medical College and Pharmacy under one roof of management can start due to affiliation of Hospital.Cost will be from institute to institute, might be Rs.1 lac per annum and CET will be conducted as per B.Pharm etc.
Opportunity: if you are a B.Pharm and getting admission in Pharm D., then after completion of three years and if you are interested then you will be absorbed by same or other institute as the need of Pharm D. teaching staff after 3rd year of regular Pharm D. will be more/increased. Simultaneously Pharm D. is a global qualification, which will be acceptable for on the spot job and/or further study.
