Request for information on the average drug usage of Indian population :Revised (5)
*******************************************************************
Dear Sukumar Vellakkal,
To know more about uses of essential drugs you can consult Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs)- published by Delhi Society for Promotion of Rational Use of Drugs (DSPRUD) can contact at dsprud2005@yahoo.com. This book will provide you details of treatment of 320 priority diseases using drugs in the Essential Drugs List. In India most states have their own EDL and delhi was the first one to have a EDL. National EDL is a model list like WHO EDL, every state has to make their own EDL keeping in view their requirements.
In delhi we at DSPRUD have made this attempt of matching drugs mentioned in the EDL with those in the STGs.
Regarding calculations of drug quantities needed - again DSPRUD has done state level exercises in three states namely UP, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand.
with best wishes,

Dear Friends,
Our organisation is engaged in providing all necessary technical and
logistical support for the micro health insurance units for the poor in
India. As a part, We are engaged in facilitating on getting drugs at
reasonable rate to various micro health insurance units. Few days back, I
have posted one querry about the suppliers of low cost drugs, the response
was highly positive, many thanks.
As a follow up, We are looking for some more information on the essential
drugs.
>From one of the websites of Govt of india (and also from WHO), I have
extracted information of a list of 356 essential drugs in India.
1) With these essential drugs, I am eager to know which all illnesses can
(/or can not be) treated, and
2) Also would like to know about the average of the actual uasage of these
essential drugs among the Indian population , for eg. .......mg/1000
population.
These information are expected to help us in making some actuarial
calculation too.
Please give me some guidance on how to collect information on the above
mentioned aspects. I would like to add I don't have previous
experience/expertise in this field. Meanwhile, I have been
exploring some information through internet, but the outcome was not that
much satisfactory.
Thank you
best
