Health Hazards In India
***********************
Dear I-Drug Members,
Recently there was a news on TV, that many toys sold in Indian market, especially of Chinese origin are highly toxic if put in mouth by small children. Many colors, additives used in it are carcinogenic and toxic to various systems of human body. There is no regulatory control on the toy industry in India and on toys imported as on today. The very young generation of kids who would be citizens tomorrow is already exposed to such a serious health risk and nothing is done to prevent it.
Then some results were disclosed by Maharashtra FDA that the cattle milk consumed by people is adulterated by high amounts of Urea, which can be very toxic. One reason is consumption of grass laden with pesticides by cattle. Many Herbal preparations dispensed out by so called naturopaths, are known to contain high levels of heavy metals toxic to liver and kidney. Patients never imagine that they may be inviting the death or long hospitalization by consuming these herbal powders.
Can we as alert health care professionals bring down substantially these health hazards?
Where should we start? Can it be taken up with regulators soon?
