Antibiotic Prescribing In Children In India (8)
***********************************************

Dear Dr Pramil.

It is very good. We must be serious to our obligation to future generations. We at DMCH Ludhiana did a study in pediatric ICU for the antibiotic use in respiratory tract infections in winter months in 2006-07and planning the same in same months this year 2007-08 to see the pattern of use and in third consecutive year 2008-09 mainly to study the rationale, pattern of use and accordingly prepare guidelines for the use of antibiotics in the same indication. We had intentionally restricted ourselves to one diagnosis, to be focused and had planned to add diarrhoeal diseases this summer. We are analyzing the first year results and preliminary results indicate that use of higher antibiotics is on the rise.

I suggest likeminded people from different areas, focus on one aspect (diagnosis) each including both Government and private setting as well as both rural and urban setting to have a broad an comprehensive idea both at IPD and OPD levels. Minimum of 2-4 centers at each level which are matched to serve the purpose.
