Pharmacist and Doctor important Link (16)
****************************************

Dear All,
I have been watching this interesting discussion. Both the profession: Medical and Pharmacy can co-exist together and work harmoniously for the benefit of the society. The students of Pharmacy Practice after obtaining master's degree have been in different field including as clinical pharmacists/hospital pharmacists. It is quite natural that the students are attracted to industry because of ample scope. To make ourselves worthy of complementing medical service we need to get trained first or ?let there be first opportunity then we shall get ourselves trained? we need to think. Unless we have residency programme like medical students our students would not be able to serve or complement medical service. We are talking of master?s qualified pharmacists. Why do we need a minimum master degree to serve as a clinical pharmacist? Then what (others like B. Pharm., leave about D. Pharm.) qualified persons will do?

What is necessary is a collective effort. Probably most important is National Human Right Commission's recommendation getting implemented which is now lying in cold storage with central government. This would make pharmaceutical service including clinical pharmacy service relevant. "Impressing upon the Medical Council of India to have standards for hospitals and clinical pharmacy services as they have minimum standards for others in medical college hospitals" would change the pharmacy service scenario. As some corporate hospitals are going for accreditation, they are likely to employ clinical pharmacists.

People have no doubt about the contribution of pharmacists in their health care.

These are all my feelings.
