Pharmacist and Doctor: Important Link (15)
*****************************************
I fully agree with Dr.sampada, gaining the approval of highly qualified doctors for a pharmacist?s role is not a big problem as they themselves understand the complexity of drug knowledge, the real problem arrives when it comes to practitioners of other pathy who practice allopathy (usually GPs), they corelate pharmacists to old age compounders, and are reluctant to acknowledge the importance of pharmacist as they fear that it will reduce their importance as a doctor in the minds of people who traditionally respect the designation ?doctor? and not their qualification,
I have personally questioned many DHMS doctors practicing allopathy in rural areas of Maharashtra and to my surprise their knowledge of pharmacological principles was very very poor, they merely prescribed the drugs taking into consideration the indications only. So building a doctor-pharmacist bridge is more beneficial to common man rather than to pharmacists professionally.
