Pharmacist and Doctor: Important Link (2)
*************************************

I am NOT a health-care professional but a person (aged about 58 years) concerned about the health of the community in general and that of the weaker sections of the society in particular. I have met many doctors for professional consultations both in regular hospitals and in individual consultation rooms. I have never seen any dialogue between the doctor and a pharmacist. Many times when I go to a medical shop to buy medicines, I ask the counter person (I assume that such person is a qualified pharmacist) to tell me the generic name of the prescribed medicine and advise me whether a cheaper brand (with the same generic name) exists. The counter person usually is not interested in looking into the books and guiding me.

The counter person also does not tell me what a particular medicine is for; i.e. whether it is for reducing blood pressure or help control blood sugar etc.

Good that you have started a dialogue. Members of the public should get more interested and aware. I am keen to do voluntary work; kindly guide me and tell me what I can do.
