World Alzheimer's Day
***********************
Dear group members,
As you all might be aware that Sept 21, is world Alzheimer's Day. Below is the brief write up this day.
World Alzheimer's Day- September 21
In 1906, Alois Alzheimer first described the disease that carries his name. This year's World Alzheimer's Day campaign has a theme of No time to lose!
Globally, about 18 million people have dementia. Approximately, three million Indians suffer from Alzheimer.
With aging populations around the world, dealing with the diseases that are most common in old age is becoming more and more urgent. Alzheimer's disease is one of the most devastating of these diseases, as it involves not simply the clinical loss of memory, but the deterioration of cherished bonds with family and loved ones, indeed, with ones' sense of unique personal history and identity.
The common causes of dementia are injury to the brain, stroke, consumption of alcohol, and genes and hereditary traits. There is no known cure for Alzheimer's disease. However, there is medication to treat some of these symptoms.
Raising awareness on Alzheimer's disease in the community is an essential step. It could be done through education campaigns and events, which also help to change the negative public attitudes about dementia. They also encourage people to seek help from medical professionals.
If you know of someone with Alzheimer's talk to the person and assist getting medical care!!!
