Patient Package Insert (11)
****************************
Dear I Drug participants,
I fully appreciate the views of many of the concerned people on this
subject.
Having worked the Pharmaceutical Industry over 24 years, I fairly know the
thinking of the manufactures. When ever the cost of packaging goes up or
cuts in to the operating margin, the first axe falls on the Carton ( for a
liquid bottle), which has cascading efforts on the other accompaniments like dosage dispenser ( measure cup/ spoon). (This has lead patients to use the cap of the bottle as dispenser! )
Similarly, if a decision is taken to dispense with PPI, it will be
immediately taken up.
At the same time, literacy level of people being so low some areas, it is
difficult for the patients to read the PPI.
While developed countries like US operating with much stricter and meaning
full controls are moving ahead on educating patients on the medicines that
they are taking. There are also slogans like " Kids are not young adults"
while purchasing OTC medicines.
In India,we have to go a long way... but let our thoughts continue...
