Metallic taste with nitroimidazoles (6)
**********

Dear sir,

Metronidazole is a bitter substance amd it is secreted in significant amount in saliva giving a bitter mettalic taste. Other drugs which cause dysgeusia are captopril, d-penicillamine, griseofulvin etc. For the first two it is SH (sulfur content)which is responsible. The nitro imidazoles as such may have a metallic taste. It nay appear to be too simple an explanation but iti s most likely the reason.

Regards.
